UNLF groups celebrate MPA raising day

Imphal, February 09 2022: The proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) reportedly celebrated the 35th raising day of its armed wing Manipur People's Army (MPA) on Wednesday at MPA general headquarters, party's CHQ and battalions/units and at different parts of Manipur and outside.

A UNLF statement issued by its media coordinator Th Charairongba said that the MPA was formed on February 9,1987 to launch an armed revolution to free people of Manipur from India's suppressive regime and also to protect people's lives and properties.

The main celebration of the anniversary was held at MPA general headquarters wherein party chairman Kh Pambei attended as chief guest, secretary of defence Ng Pamheiba as president and general secretary Ch Thanil as guest of honour.

The event was also attended by secretaries I Tonsana (health & family welfare), S Nongdol (organisation), Th Sidabamapu (external & regional affairs), S Pankhei (finance) and assistant secretary (external & regional affairs) Col YSanou besides GSO-I, GSO-II, CO, officers, NCOs, privates of MPA and assistant secretaries, directors, staff officers, staff of different departments of the outfit.

The statement further said that the celebration at 291Bn headquarters was attended by base area secretary Lt Col Kh Nongthrei, commanding officer, officers, NCOs, privates and representatives of fraternal revolutionary parties of WESEA.

Similar celebration was also held at 293Bn headquarters.

According to the statement, the celebration was also held successfully in a foreign country led by assistant secretary external affairs (Liaison) Kh Sanahal while assistant secretary Th Khanba led the celebration at three base areas of external & regional affairs in another foreign country.

The celebration was also held at districts of Manipur led by district secretaries.

Highlights of the celebration were gun salute to martyrs on the intervening night of February 8 and 9, observance of two minutes' silence on February 9 morning, unfurling of flag, parade, homage to martyrs, and reading out messages of COAS and chairman.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by deputy secretary of publicity M Sak-hen informed that UNLF celebrated the 35th raising day of its armed wing Manipur People's Army (MPA) at 9am on Wednesday at MPA general headquarters and battalions with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocol.

According to the deputy secretary, the main celebration was held at MPA general headquarters in the presence of UNLF chairman cum Military Affairs Committee chairman NC Koireng, vice chairman N Thabal and MPA's.COAS M Chaoba.

The celebration at MPA GHQ was also attended by central committee secretaries and members including Y Abo, O Chingkheinganbi, S Tamphajao, Ksh Yoiheiba, M Munal, Thoitak Dingthoi Chiru Khuman, M Iboyaima and K Puyaning.

The celebration at GHQ was also attended by MPA's VCSL Khongnangthaba, GSOs, MPA officers, NCOs, privates and directors of different departments of the outfit.

The celebration was also held at 293 Bn, tactical units and other task force battalions while the celebration at CSF was led by CSF director.

The celebration at external and regional affairs headquarters was led by general secretary N Lancha while the celebration at LAKSA headquarters of external affairs was led by IRA director Lt Chumthang and LAKSA secretary Lt Col Mannaba.

Highlights of the celebration were observance of two minutes' silence in honour of martyred revolutionaries, paying floral tributes, unfurling of party flag and reading out of MAC chairman's message.
