UG cadres arrested, arms recovered

Police recovered several arms and ammunition, and arrested two members of UG organisations in separate operations conducted in different locations of the state in the last two days.
According to a police control room statement, one .303 rifle with magazine, four No 36 hand grenades without detonators, one improvised mortar (Pompi), two rounds of INSAS, one INSAS LMG magazine, and camouflage clothing bearing PLA insignia were recovered from Gwarok hill range near Bengi village under Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district on Wednesday.
In a separate operation on the same day, police arrested a cadre of the proscribed KCP (PWG) from near the gate of Thambaleima High School, Iramsiphai Leirak Ashangba, under Wangoi PS in Imphal West district.
The arrested person has been identified as Arambam Birkumar alias Kanba (47) of Kanglatongbi Mantriband in Imphal West district, currently staying at a relief camp in the same school.
He was allegedly involved in extortion by issuing threats and monetary demands to government officials, banks, brick farms and the public in the valley areas.
Police seized two mobile handsets, a wallet containing an Aadhaar card and Rs 3,530 in cash from his possession.
Earlier on Tuesday, police arrested an active member of KCP (City Meitei), identified as Oinam Sanamacha Meitei (27) of Moidangpok Khunou Mamang Leikai, from Awang Khunou Mayai Leikai under Patsoi PS in Imphal West district.
A two-wheeler vehicle, an olive green bag, a mobile phone with two SIM cards, and a wallet containing Rs 50 were seized from him.
On the same day, police conducted a special drive targeting anti-social elements and recovered three vehicles suspected to be stolen or snatched.
Additionally, tinted sheets were removed from 41 vehicles during the drive, the statement added.
