21st general session of TPO concludes at Purul

The 21st General Session of Tenyimi People's Organization (TPO) was held at Purul Akutpa village in Senapati district on Tuesday.
The programme held under the theme "Tenyimi-Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" was hosted by Poumai Naga Union (PNU) .
Neiba Kronu, minister of Planning & Coordination, Parliamentary Affairs & Land Records & Survey, Nagaland, attended the event as special guest and J Kumo Sha, MLA, Manipur, as honoured guest.
Mention may be made that TPO is the apex body of 10 tribes from Nagaland, Manipur and Assam.
The tribes are Pochury, Poumai, Thangal, Rengma, Maram, Inpui, Chakhesang, Angami, Mao and Zeliangrong.
Speaking at the event, Neiba Kronu paid tribute to the forefathers of Tenyimi people recalling their hard work, honesty, sincerity, hospitality and bravery.
He said that even the Britishers called them "the brave Nagas" .
Neiba also urged the current leaders to make wise decision in the face of many issues to guide future generations to the right path.
J Kumo Sha expressed fear that the Tenyimi people could be further divided over land dispute and he stressed the need for 'unity, peace and progress' among the Tenyimi family while referring to the meeting's theme.
The MLA then called on the gathering to revisit the past history and renew the vision to live in unity as one family.
He also proposed formation of Tenyimi Youth Organization and a plan for a grand cultural promotion programme in order to strengthen the functioning of TPO.
Earlier in his presidential address, Timikha Koza, president TPO urged the members present to think more seriously about various issues faced by Tenyimi people and the areas that require to be addressed.
The TPO president pointed out that they could not afford to be complacent about the present situation and said, "There is no more time for us to speak with platitudes, polite words and beating around the bush for fear of calling a spade, a spade and for fear of disturbing the settled way of life" .
Solidarity messages from Tenyimi Women Organization, Naga People's Organization, Senapati, Tenyimi Union, Dimapur and United Naga Council were also read out during the programme.
Folk tune from Chakhesang Cultural Organization enthralled the gathering during the inaugural session.
During the business session, Sovenyi, convenor of Board of Arbitrators sought for more time to give the final verdict relating to Kezoltsa/Koziirii/ Kazing along Dziiko area.
The convenor added that the delay was made as the contending parties are not coming forward and ready to accept the judgement.
It may be noted that the Board of Arbitrators was constituted by TPO with 2 representatives each from the 10 tribes.
The Board is reportedly working to reach a verdict over the land dispute.
According to the statement of the convenor, the Board had held several meetings in its effort to settle the issue within the Tenyimi customary law and practices, sought suggestions from leaders and thinkers, undertaken surveys, recorded statements from all parties, etc.
Sovenyi further mentioned that it is not only their mission to settle the dispute but also to remove misunderstanding among the people, to strengthen, unite and protect the identity of the people.
Later, a search committee was constituted to appoint new executives for the next tenure and is set to meet on June 3 at Kohima where the BOA will also present their written report there.
The 21st General Session of the TPO was said to be the biggest ever general session held to date.
