Cycle rally raises awareness on Leprosy

Imphal, February 02 2025:
A cycle rally themed "Together, let us raise awareness, dispel misconceptions, and ensure that no one affected by leprosy is left behind" was held on Sunday as part of the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign.
The cycle rally flagged off by RIMS medical superintendent professor N Sanjib from the medical directorate complex, Lamphelpat, was jointly organised by National Leprosy Eradication Program, National Health Mission Manipur and Doctors on Pedals.
The cyclists rode through Uripok Canteen Road, passed Kangla Nongchup Sanathong, and reached Khoyathong.
The rally concluded at the IMA Hall, Lamphelpat after passing through Khongnan-ganikarak and Thangmeiband Watham Leirak.
Participants carried placards with messages such as "Unite, Act, and Eliminate Leprosy", "Leprosy is Curable with MDT", "Leprosy Treatment is Free of Cost", "Act Now, End Leprosy", and "Together We Can Eradicate Leprosy" .
During the event, state leprosy officer Dr S Bocha said that leprosy is not a result of wrongdoing and that the government provides free treatment for those affected.
He urged anyone who suspects of suffering from leprosy to visit the nearest hospital and contribute to the eradication efforts in the state.
He also said that the rally has been organised with the primary objective of spreading awareness among the public.
Dr S Bocha further appealed for an end to the stigma and discrimination against people with leprosy, while urging everyone to help them seek treatment and support their recovery.
