Imphal, November 29 2015:
BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secretary Asinikumar on Sunday slammed the State Government for holding the Sangai Festival without taking up any measures to preserve the Sangai and promote the Keibul Lamjao.
During an interaction with media persons at the BJP office, Asinikumar said that Manipur Government lacks focus on the preservation of the critically endangered species of brow-antlered deer 'Sangai' though the Government holds the Sangai Festival every year.
Many Sangai drawn as logos in the Festival even do not really look like a Sangai but the Government has always turned a blind eye to the issue, added Asinikumar.
The BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secretary further stated that the Government has always failed to focus on developing the home of Sangai, Keibul Lamjao.
People do not see Chief Minister and Forest Minister ever visit the Keibul Lamjao and fails to take up the necessary measures to save the endangered species, added Asinikumar.
Post of Deputy Conservator of Forest and Park and Sanctuary of Forest Department exists in Manipur to look after the affairs of Keibul Lamjao but its officials are sat in Sanjenthong.
Keibul Lamjao will not be able to protect by simply sitting in Sanjenthong, said Asinikumar and demanded to make a post of Director Keibul Lamjao National Park.
It may be mentioned that Keibul Lamjao became a sanctuary in 1972 and a national park in 1977.The Keibul Lamjao is surrounded by more than 22 villages.
