Licypriya meets Italy PM Meloni, Pope Francis

Licypriya Kangujam, a 12-year-old Indian climate and environmental activist from Manipur, met with Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Vatican Head Pope Francis in Rome on Monday, urging both to provide special humanitarian support to the victims of Manipur violence.
According to a press communique, Licypriya is in Rome for the first World Children's Day celebration, which Pope Francis also attended, after a special invite on behalf of all the children of the world, along with her family.
During her discussion with the Pope, Licypriya emphasised on urgency of addressing the global climate crisis and generous funding from rich nations to compensate for the loss and damage suffered by poor developing nations.
She highlighted the importance of mandatory climate education in every school curriculum, especially in Catholic schools worldwide, to combat climate change from the grassroots.
Licypriya also briefed the Italian Prime Minister and the Pope about the root causes of the current conflict in Manipur, urging them to provide a special financial package to rebuild the communities, including implementing afforestation programme in Manipur.
Pope Francis assured of his full support in her fight for world peace.
It marked the second time Licypriya has met with Pope Francis and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, having met them last year as well.
"My meeting will strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
It will help to boost more power in my fight to save our planet and for humanity with the blessing of His Holiness Pope Francis," Licypriya said.
"Italy must stand with humanity and should support the United Nations in stopping the Israel genocide against Palestinian people in Gaza," Licypriya told the media after meeting the Pope, the statement informed.
