Sendra hosts discourse on bird conservation

A one-day awareness programme on the conservation of birds was held on Sunday at Inland Water Transport Complex, Sendra with Loktak Development Authority project director Ngangom Sanajaoba Meitei and Manipur Bird Club president Khangembam Shamungou chairing the session.
Attending the discourse, K Jugeshor delivered a comprehensive talk on ''Identification of Birds: Issues and Challenges", highlighting both the importance of avian conservation and the numerous challenges faced in the protection of bird biodiversity.
An interactive session followed with members of Loktak Lake Tourism Development Cooperative Society, Sendra - a leading boating service provider in the state - focusing on their pivotal role in safeguarding waterbirds, alongside offering quality experiences to tourists.
In his address, director Sanajaoba Meitei stressed the urgent need, for environmental-conservation in light of the ongoing global warming crisis.
He underscored the vital link between the protection of avian populations and the preservation of wetlands, while calling on all stakeholders to act as custodians of the environment and its biodiversity.
Khangembam Shamungou, in his presidential remarks, emphasised the importance of minimising disturbances to waterbirds during boating operations.
He further urged tourist guides to deepen their knowledge of Loktak Lake's waterbird species and to disseminate this information to visitors in order to foster greater eco-awareness.
Following the conclusion of the awareness session, the Annual General Body Meeting of the Manipur Bird Club (MBC) was held, during which members present unanimously resolved to prioritise the conservation of Manipur's avian heritage and formulated a range of action plans for the coming year.
