Govt urged to declare results for assistant professor

Imphal, February 27 2023: Candidates, who appeared in the recruitment for 190 posts of assistant professors on contractual basis in government colleges under department of higher and technical education conducted in 2021, have urged the government to declare results of the recruitment.

A memorandum submitted to education minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar stated that a list of shortlisted candidates was uploaded on August 23, 2021 on the official website of the directorate of university and higher education after due screening of academic credentials and suitability of the applied candidates strictly in compliance with UGC norms and criteria.

Accordingly, interview for the posts began on September 3 and was completed on September 21, 2021 .

Meanwhile, the department issued a press release on June 22, 2022 informing that the recruitment process is near completion and has been referred to department of personnel for declaration of results.

At the same time, there are reports of acute shortage of teaching faculty in the higher education sector.

The new National Education Policy, 2020 also made it clear that presence of adequate number of teaching faculty will improve gross enrolment ratio in higher education sector, thereby, leading to overall socio-economic growth.

The applied candidates have been waiting for results of the recruitment examination for almost one and half year now, the memorandum said.

In the meantime, recruitment results of 1500 graduate teachers were declared by the department of education (S) recently.

The recruitment process of the graduate teachers took place simultaneously with that of the assistant professors, which is still being kept pending.

Delay in declaration of the recruitment examination results has demotivated the aspirations of the applied candidates, the memorandum said.

It then drew attention of the minister and the department concerned to declare the results of the recruitment examination at the earliest.
