'Leichilgi Machat' enthralls audience at JNMDA

Imphal, September 23 2026: The play "Leichilgi Machat" produced by Raag Tarang Mandal under the Cultural Foundation and Production Grant Scheme (CFPGS) of the Ministry of Culture was staged today at the auditorium of JN Manipur Dance Academy.

Speaking at the function, Director of JN Manipur Dance Academy Pukhrambam Bilash said a system of gathering artists and forming associations just to avail Ministry grants has emerged in the State.

This practice has caused great hardships to genuine artists, he said.

Such practice of forming associations with only a few artists to get grants should be stopped.

Genuine artists should be given their due share in full, he added.

Stating that earlier artistes doing Lila, drama and folk arts felt they had no future, now with Manipur University of Culture established, there is a distinct academic centre.

There are now opportunities to learn various art forms in depth and the younger generation should avail these opportunities, he said.

He also called upon all to work together to preserve artists who project the identity of the State to the world.
