Imphal, July 19 2024:
Accusing Assam Rifles of being biased in their attitude and conduct amid the conflict situation in the state and failure to protect lives and properties of the indigenous communities, Khunai Kan-ba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (KHUKAMPAL), a unit under Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, has demanded authority concerned to remove the Assam Rifles from Manipur.
In a statement, KHUKAMPAL observed that people of the state are not satisfied with commitment of the central forces in tackling the crisis, especially as Assam Rifles, seem over-enthusiastic in shifting vulnerable population and making them refugees in their own land instead of protecting them and their properties.
Such partial conducts were evident throughout the state whether in Torbung Bangla and Churachandpur or Moreh.
People are also well aware about role of AR during the attack by Kuki militants in Serou and Sugnu areas in May last year, the statement said.
On the other hand, there are allegations of Assam Rifles facilitating entry of illegal immigrants in Kamjong district were Myanmarese nationals have outnumbered the local residents.
Preventing influx of illegal immigrants is the responsibility of the Assam Rifles as they are entrusted with guarding the border, maintained the statement, while adding that all these underscore failure of Assam Rifles officers and troopers in performing their mandated task.
The statement also urged the central security forces deployed in the state to refrain from indulging in biased conduct while dealing the crisis.
