Imphal, February 19 2025:
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded suitable action against a policeman for his alleged abetment of unfair means during the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM)-conducted HSLC examination-2025 .
The Alliance also called for penalising school authorities whose negligence led to 35 students being barred from appearing the examination which commenced from Wednesday.
Addressing media persons at its Kwakeithel office on Wednesday, DESAM general secretary Nongthombam Thoithoiba said a team of DESAM inspected seven examination centres on the opening day of the HSLC examination-2025.The centres covered included Little Master English School, Samurou; Brilliant Public School, Samurou; Wangoi Higher Secondary School; Yumnam Huidrom Higher Secondary School; Chanambam Thambou Higher Secondary School, Mayang Imphal; N Tomchou Higher Secondary School, Mayang Imphal; and Uchiwa High School.
Claiming that a policeman was found aiding students in use of unfair means at Uchiwa high school, the secretary elaborated that a man coming out from a boarding centre nearby the examination centre came out and handed over some notes to the policeman.
As the policeman was trying to pass the notes to exam appearing students at the centre, DESAM volunteers confiscated the notes but were torn to shreds in the tussle between the policeman and volunteers.
As such, Thoithoiba urged the BOSEM and home department to take action against the policeman and other police personnel, if any, involved in the illegal act under the Manipur Prevention of Malpractices in High School Leaving Certificate and Higher Secondary Examination Act 2004.He also denounced parents of some students reacting indifferently to DESAM's objective to prevent to use unfair means, instead urged them to support its endeavour to promote quality education.
According to Thoithoiba, 31 students of P Namjoklung High School and four of Laphupat Tera High School are on the verge of suffering career loss as they could not appear in the exam due to lapses on the part of the school authorities.
He said that heads/authorities of the schools must be punished as per law and suggested that BOSEM discuss about arranging special exam for the students to save their career.
