Imphal, June 13 2024:
Kukis are attacking the Meeteis not just for prohibiting poppy plantation or the government's attempt to conserve reserved forests, identify illegal immigrants or the Meeteis demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, but they do not want the Meeteis to interfere with their (Kukis) geopolitics, said Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) acting chairman M Nongyai.
On Thursday, Eramdam Kanba Lup (EKAL) held a memorial service to commemorate and offer floral tributes to all those who died in Khamen-lok village on June 13 last year.
Speaking at the solemn event, Nongyai opined that the Meeteis never thought that the Kukis would one day attack them.
When the UNLF used to have a strong presence in the hills, it was in areas resided by Hmar, Paite, Thadou and other Kuki sub-tribes.
At the time, Kukis did not have any interest in geopolitics.
When the Kukis decided to indulge in geopolitics, they realised they need to weaken the Meeteis to prevent any interference and as such, began attacking the Meeteis, he maintained.
Further stating that PM Narendra Modi did not speak a word about Manipur, while union home minister Amit Shah is hesitating to visit the state as they had agreed to uphold demands raised by Kukis in exchange for votes prior to the general elections, Nongyai asserted that UNLF will not retreat until all those threatening to disintegrate Manipur, which was painfully established by the Meetei forefathers after a long time, are completely defeated.
The conflict will not end until the desecration of the sacred sites of Laiphamlen Koubru, Thangjing and Kondong Lairembi is avenged, he declared.
In his address, social activist RK Sanayaima alias Meghen said that Kukis are not the lone mastermind behind the calculated attack against Meeteis.
The Indian government is playing a big game to ensure the success of its geopolitics.
He questioned how Kukis from another country are able to infiltrate into the state when the borders are being guarded by Assam Rifles.
Kukis were taught by the Indian government on how to weaken the Meeteis to its present state.
Both men and women need to work and fight together with regard to the present conflict, he stressed.
