Kakching, November 08 2024:
Poultry farmers from Kakching and Thoubal districts staged a sit-in demonstration on Friday, urging the state government to take immediate action to ensure uninterrupted supply of poultry feed.
The farmers' move came amid farmers facing a severe shortage of poultry feed due to the economic blockade along the NH-2, which has reportedly led to the death of many chicks.
The sit-in was held at the Central Public Hall Of Yumbimacha High School, here, during which protesters held placards denouncing frequent disruption caused to vehicular movement along the national highways, urged authorities concerned to address problems faced by poultry farmers, and that the government take up measures to help the poultry farmers.
Speaking on the sidelines of the sit-in, one Naorem Jugeshwore called on the government to take immediate measures, to ensure availability of poultry feed in the state and to address the farmers' problems.
He also appealed to all concerned to relax the blockade or at least allow the passage of essential supplies like poultry feed.
He stated that despite being a small state, Manipur has made significant progress in poultry farming, with thousands of people relying on it for their livelihoods.
He, however, lamented that various organisations laying siege on the national highways has created serious problems for poultry farmers.
Noting that the ongoing blockade along NH-2 enforced by different groups on varied issues, has entered the tenth day, causing a severe scarcity of poultry feed, he disclosed that such protracted blockade has led to death of many chicks in some areas.
