Bishnupur, July 08 2024:
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday visited Phubala High School relief camp in Bishnupur district and interacted with the displaced people residing in the camp for the last 14 months.
He visited the relief camp on his way back from Churachandpur to Imphal in the afternoon.
Congress party workers from six assembly constituencies of Bishnupur district gave a rousing welcome to Rahul Gandhi by standing on both sides of the road from Phubala Khongnang Makhong to gate of the relief camp.
He reached the relief camp around 3.50 pm and distributed snacks to the displaced children before entering the rooms and assessing the living conditions of the displaced people.
Later, he interacted with the camp residents, during which a widow from Churachandpur district aired her grievances and hardships they have been enduring for the last 14 months without any income sources.
She urged the opposition leader for help in their resettlement and rehabilitation at their respective homes.
Rahul Gandhi also assured his best efforts in resolving the issue and restoring peace in the state.
He also went through the products made by the residents of the relief camp such as detergent powder, incense sticks, candle and stools made of bamboo and plastic.
CLP leader Okram Ibobi, MPCC president K Meghachandra, CWC member Gaikhangam, MLAs Th Lokeshwar and T Ranjit, ex-MLA N Loken and several party leaders accompanied the Congress leader.
Interacting with the media, MLA Meghachandra said that despite misleading claim of restoring peace in the state made by the Prime Minister, there is no peace in the state.
He asked if the armed attack on security forces in Jiribam during Rahul Gandhi's visit on Monday was a sign of restoration of peace.
The Prime Minister should come to the state and take up decisive steps to resolve the issue and restore peace and normalcy at the earliest, he demanded.
