₹11.60 L raised for Mani pur-origin victims of Myanmar quake

Imphal, May 08 2025: Support for Myanmar (Meitei) Earthquake Victims has provided monetary assistance of Rs 11,60,000 to the Meetei-origin Meitei-Pangal, Meetei and Brahmin communities affected by the March 28 earthquake in Myanmar, through Vidya Foundation, a Manipuri organisation in Myanmar.

Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, Support for Myanmar (Meitei) Earthquake Victim convenor Haorokcham Anil stated that a dedicated committee was constituted to extend support to the affected communities.

The fundraising drive, organised by the Committee, was carried out from April 6 to 25 under the aegis of Manipur Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Indo-Myanmar Association and philanthropists from Manipur.

A total amount of Rs 11,60,000 was raised during the campaign.

Contributors included Global Manipuri Organisation, Indian Red Cross Medical Association (Manipur Branch), BABINA Group and numerous individuals, including members of the teaching community.

The fund drive was primarily conducted through social media platforms, with the active support of the Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM), he said.
