Imphal, May 06 2024:
Alleging favouritism and nepotism in the recent recruitment of 10 assistant town planners and assistant architects in the Towrn Plan ning Department, Kanglei -pak Students' Association (KSA) has demanded decla ration of the said recruitment process null and void.
Addressing media persons at its Khoyathong office, here, on Friday, KSA president Sukham Bidyananda asserted that the post of assistant town planner and assistant architect, which is of gazetted status, should be filled in through recruitment conducted by the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) contrary to which the department carried out the recruitment process with conduct of only interview of the applicants.
Despite the MPSC being inactive for a period, the department's decision to proceed with direct recruitment via interviews for these gazetted positions underscores nepotism and favouritism, Bidyananda said.
He also pointed out that the notification for direct recruitment for these posts was issued on February 7, with February 12 as deadline for form submission, followed by interviews on February 13 and results declared on March IS.
The unusually expeditious recruitment process, compared lengthy procedures in other departments, raises serious doubts about integrity of the authority concerned.
Furthermore, the selection of a candidate, who is also the son of former chief town planner and presently overseeing the Amrut Scheme, as assistant architect, deepens suspicion of nepotism and favouritism in the recruitment process, Bidyananda claimed.
As irregularities in any recruitment process cause distress and discourage candidates who work hard, not to speak of impeding state's progress in all aspects ultimately, the selection of assistant town planners and assistant architects should be invalidated, and fresh recruitment process initiated through the MPSC, demanded the SUK president.
