Imphal, December 05 2022:
AMUCO has stressed the need for ensuring proper irrigation facility in order to bring self-sufficiency in food production in the state.
In continuation of its series of farmers' training programme and distribution of seeds, AMUCO provided 14 bags of potato seeds to two farmers - Yumnam Dhana-jit and Thaodem Bishwajit of Imphal East, who have farms at Ishikha Loukol where the two will carry out potato farming with support from AMUCO.
Informing this in a release, AMUCO secretary publicity Laishram Krishnachandra Khuman called upon the people of the state to understand the necessity of bringing self-sufficiency in terms of food production in order to improve socio-economic condition of the state.
Stressing on the importance of producing sufficient food to meet the growing demand of the state, the statement also urged the fish farmers to take up innovative farming techniques for increasing the fish yield.
While conveying about various activities taken up by AMUCO towards realising the objective, it reiterated that proper irrigation facility is the most important factor for boosting food production.
The statement also expressed serious con cern over the act of burning stubbles and hays, which often spread to nearby farms and burn yet to be harvested crops, and urged the farmers and general public to refrain from such activities.
There is no evidence that burning stubbles and hays will increase soil fertility, it pointed out.
