Imphal, October 05 2024:
Pan-India Manipuri Meitei Scientists and Academicians' Association (PIMMSAA) has been actively providing humanitarian aid to people who have become internally displaced in the state as a result of the conflict that broke out between the Kuki and the Meetei communities on May 3 last year.
As part of their ongoing humanitarian efforts, members of PIMMSAA distributed stationery items to 176 IDP students across three schools - Eureka Academy in Thounaojam (Thoubal), Elang Keinya High School in Elang Khanpokpi, and Langmeidong Higher Secondary School in Langmeidong on Saturday.
Informing this in a press communique, PIMMSAA emphasised that education is the foundation for societal growth, and despite the severe challenges faced by the people, especially the students, their education must not be compromised.
In addition to Saturday's initiative, PIMMSAA recently honoured meritorious IDP students from classes X and XII through the "Community Resilient Educational Financial Support (CREFS) Award 2024" .
This award was presented at the occasion of association's first foundation day celebrated on July 16 last at Manipur University.
Beyond the award winners, more than 100 students who applied for the award were given consolation prizes, inspiring and motivating them to continue their academic efforts despite the adversity.
PIMMSAA's humanitarian work extends beyond educational support.
The association has been assisting the Meetei inmates of more than 50 relief camps, providing essential domestic items such as blankets, thermal clothing, shoes, school bags, groceries, and other necessities.
One of its most impactful initiatives is the Sustainable Livelihood Mission (SLM), which empowers displaced Meetei women by helping them generate income, offering a path toward financial independence and sustainability, the organisation said.
In addition to its on-the-ground efforts, PIMMSAA regularly conducts talk series that bring together experts from various fields to share insights on topics relevant to the community.
Recently, the organisation launched a Science and Academic talk series featuring its members, many of whom are associated with prestigious universities, colleges, and research institutions across India.
With the motto "We rise by lifting others", PIMMSAA remains committed to serving the nation and fostering the growth of the Meetei community, ensuring that even during times of crisis, education and sustainable livelihoods are not forgotten, the communique added.
