Cops reopen Hospital OPD, CMO office sealed by CSOs

Jiribam, January 05 2025: In denunciation of the alleged failure by the government to post sufficient and qualified doctors, including the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS), at the 50-bedded Jiribam District Hospital within the January 1 deadline set, executives of the District Hospital Monitoring Committee, accompanied by volunteers of CSOs and Meira Paibi groups, put the hospital's OPD and the CMO's office under lock and seal.

However, a team of district police broke the lock, few hours after the forced closure by the civil bodies.

Speaking to the media at the hospital, monitoring committee convenor N Sadananda recounted that Jiribam denizens, and CSOs, have been urging the government to depute adequate numbers of doctors to the district hospital, contrary to which an order was issued recently for transfer of some doctors from the hospital.

According to the convenor, the committee and the public had set January 1 deadline for the government to post requisite doctors, including CMO and DMS, as well as to revoke the transfer order but to no avail.

Consequently, the committee, CSOs and meira paibi groups decided to shut down the hospital's OPD and the CMO's office till their demands are honoured.

Sadananda also criticised the contractor engaged for the hospital's development works, for sluggish pace of work in-spite of release of project fund, while cautioning that suitable action might be initiated against the contractor in case of inordinate delay in completing the task assigned.
