Prof Sahoo appointed Director IBSD

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Government of India headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the appointment of Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo as the new Director of Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal.
The institute has been functioning without a full time Director since 2009 .
Dr.Sahoo is a Professor from Department of Botany, University of Delhi, Delhi.
He is a Scientist of international repute who has vast experience in the field of environment and biotechnology.
Presently, he is also the Chairman of the Governing Body of Kalindi College, University of Delhi.
He has the distinction of being the first Indian student to visit Antarctica during the 7th Indian scientific expedition to Antarctica in the year 1987-88 and was part of the team in establishing India's permanent scientific station in Antarctica.
Subsequently, Prof Sahoo made two trips to Artic and has the distinction of travelling all the seven continents and 5 oceans in less than 2 years period.
He has worked in USA, Japan, Phillipines and travelled to more than 50 countries around the world.
He has also published several papers in leading international journals and also published six books.
His major area of work is sustainable development, climate change and bioenergy.
Prof.Sahoo has taken over the charge of the Director of IBSD.
The new Director has now given a new direction to the institute with a long term vision and roadmap for the development of the northeast region.
Prof.Sahoo had guided and taught many students from the Northeast in Delhi.
