Training prog on food processing concludes

A 15- day refresher training course on food processing organized by Manipur chapter of Association of Food & Industries under the sponsorship of Director of Commerce & Industries, Manipur at Food Processing Training Centre (FPTC), Porompat in Imphal East district wrapped up on Tuesday.
Participating at the closing function of the training, Commerce and Industries minister Govindas Konthoujam said the state Food Processing Industries (FPI) is the weakest section of Commerce and Industries Department while announcing that Rs 15 lakh would be earmarked in the next state budget to make up the shortages in the department.
More than 30 trainees participated at the training course that started from January 28 .
Minister Govindas said FPI badly needs manpower as it has only one officer now.
He said although the Centre had already released Rs 2 crore for establishment of a food testing laboratory in the state, the process of file transferring has delayed it.
The concerned authorities would be urged to implement it soon, he assured.
In India, 25 percent to 30 percent of food products are turned into wastage food every year and that the Government of India is making efforts to save this wastage food by setting up of National Mission on Food Processing in corporation with the state Governments, he added.
The minister later launched a Mobile Fruit Juice and another Extraction-cum-Training Unit and also distributed certificates to the trainees.
