State celebrates World Tourism Day

In celebration of World Tourism Day 2024, Manipur Tourism, in collaboration with the State Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition - Manipur (SIHM), organised a painting competition on the theme "Tourism and Peace" at the Directorate of Tourism on Friday.
The celebration was participated by 30 students of SIHM, who creatively interpreted the connection between tourism and peace through their artwork.
According to a statement issued by Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited (TCML), deputy director Oinam Indira Chanu emphasised the transformative role of tourism in fostering peace and understanding, while addressing the gathering.
"This year's theme, "Tourism and Peace," aligns with our mission to showcase Manipur's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty to the world.
Responsible tourism can break barriers and build bridges of understanding, contributing to peace and reconciliation," she said.
The painting competition provided a platform for students to express their ideas on peace through art, promoting understanding among different cultures.
The winners of the competition will be announced soon.
Manipur Tourism, senior finance officer Kh Amarjit reiterated the department's commitment on sustainable tourism.' We invite visitors to explore Manipur's unspoiled landscapes and experience its vibrant culture while prioritising the well-being of our communities and environment," he said.
A meeting was also held between Manipur Tourism officials and representatives of Manipur Association of Tour Operators (MATO) to discuss strategies for promoting tourism in the state.
MATO president Nivaran Nongmaithem stressed the need for cohesion among stakeholders to create a seamless experience for tourists and emphasised collective responsibility of tour operators, hoteliers, local communities, and government agencies.
Manipur Tourism welcomes visitors from around the world to join in its efforts to promote peace, understanding, and mutual respect through tourism, the statement added.
