Will identify corrupt workers if CM vows action: Cong GS

Imphal, August 27 2021: The BJP government in the state has been claiming continuously that it would not take money for any government jobs, while further highlighting the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Cell as a means of stopping corruption.

However, if CM Biren were to make an announcement that he would resign on moral ground if any of his vorkers in Heingang AC were found taking bribes on assurance of providing government jobs, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary P Saratchandra has assured of revealing the names of the workers concerned.

On Friday morning, Saratchandra distributed monetary aid and sugar to school van drivers of Heingang AC in a simple function held at his residence.

Speaking on the occasion, Saratchandra noted that majority of the state's population are living in poor conditions and a government job is often considered as the only means towards a better life.

Over the years, a trend has emerged of paying bribe to secure a government job.

In this regard, the government had set up the Anti-Corruption Cell tp crackdown on corrupt practices and also has repeatedly called upon the.people to inform authorities on the same.

However, the identity of the one truly receiving the bribe often remains obscured, he remarked.

Commenting on the recruitment of 10 and 11 IRB in February, 2019; the general secretary alleged that around Rs 5 to 10 lakh were collected from the candidates of Heingang AC, claiming that the results would soon be declared and the ones favoured by the CM wouldbe selected.

However, the results stayed undeclared and the families who had borrowed money or mortgaged their land are now in difficult situation, while parents of many of the candidates have passed away.

"The CM himself may have not taken the bribe, but it is a fact that a huge amount of money has been collected from many families in Heingang AC.

the CM should be committed and publicly announce that he is ready to resign on moral ground if any of his (CM) workers were found to have collected the money.

He must also make an announcement to punish the person(s) who had collected the money and ensure the jobs of those who had given the money", Saratchandra said, while pledging to reveal the names of the workers on the next day of the announcement.

Regarding Friday's programme, he said that school van drivers, especially those with no other means of income, have been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The government could aid the drivers by providing some amount per month as living expense.

School van drivers have been playing an important role in the development of the state and as such, he urged the government to take up measures to assist the drivers.

"School van drivers consider the students as their own children, sometimes buying stationery and items which the parent's have forgotten.

They are playing a key role in the development of the future pillars of the society", he said, while adding that programme was held with the aim of alleviating some of the difficulties of the drivers.

The function was also attended by All Manipur School Students' Transport Association president Maibam Kenedy and other members.
