Flood devastates farmland in Kakching district

Torrential rains over the past few days have caused widespread flooding in Kakching district, inundating large swathes of agricultural land and damaging around 2,885 hectares of farmland.
The floodwaters have severely affected multiple assembly constituencies, leading to substantial agricultural losses and the displacement of several families.
According to the Kakching district agriculture officer, Naorem Joykumar, Kakching Assembly Constituency (AC) is the worst affected, with approximately 1,480 hectares of farmland submerged.
This includes significant damage to Nungu Sanamahi Loukol (20 hectares), Chinglak Loukol (10 hectares), Mantak Loushi Loukol (120 hectares), Loushi Loukol (900 hectares), which includes fish farms, Mairenbam Awang Loukol (50 hectares), Leingang Loukol (70 hectares), Lengba Loukol (10 hectares), and Sora Loukol (300 hectares).
Wabagai AC has reported damage in about 630 hectares of farmland including Mairenbam and Sanarou Loukol (100 hectares), Tera Urak Mamang Loukol (100 hectares), Keirak Awang Loukol (50 hectares), Thingel Loukol (50 hectares), Pasang Loukol (200 hectares , Luwangtou Loukol (10 hectares), Wabagai Awang Loukol (60-70 hectares), and Kangjeibung Loukol (50 hectares).
In Hiyanglam AC, 390 hectares of farmland have been inundated.
The affected areas include Lourel/Tolang Waikhong Loukol (40 hectares), Awangbal Loukol (50 hectares), Kakmayai Loukol (70 hectares), Utlai Loukol (50 hectares), Moiranglou Loukol (40 hectares), Waikhom Leikai Loukol (40 hectares), and Wanglou Loukol (100 hectares).
Sugnu AC has also experienced flooding, with 38S hectares of farmland affected.
The impacted areas include Chingdum Loukol (4 hectares), Moirang Palli Loukol (5 hectares), Makhao Loukol (10 hectares), Nongang Loukol (5 hectares), Nungoo Khongyam Loukol (50 hectares), Chairel Loukol (100 hectares), Wangoo Chairel Loukol (50 hectares), Namnam Loukol (30 hectares), Wangoo Mamang Loukol (30 hectares), and Kakching Khunou Loukol (100 hectares).
Joykumar noted that the recent flooding has caused extensive damage to agricultural lands, and there may be additional affected areas that are yet to be assessed and recorded.
The flooding has caused maximum damage to both agricultural lands and fish farms, and the detailed report with regard to fish farms is yet to be finalised, he said.
In addition to damage to the farmlands, the flooding has also led to the inundation of several houses across the district.
In Wabagai AC, areas from Irong to Santhel, as well as Keirak Awang, Wabagai Mairenbam, and Wabagai Turel Mamei, have reported several houses under flood waters.
In Hiyanglam AC, houses in Khoidum, Tokpaching, Sarik Konjil, Arong Nongmaikhong, and Laphupat Tera area are been flooded, he added.
