Imphal, May 26 2021:
Wearied of "incessant underground terrorist activities", Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation (RNYO) has said that it has "felt a necessity to initiate a public mass movement for social cleansing and creating a better social order" .
In a press release issued Wednesday, RNYO stated that it is a responsible civil society organisation of the Rongmei people with moral and social obligations towards creating a better social order, development and security of all citizens, and "all social activities we render are singly for peaceful and harmonious development of the community with regard to the rule of law and developmental work plan of the government that are wholesome for the good of all" .
"However, we defy all adverse rule of laws contrary to the interest and beneficial works of the community.
As a responsible social organisation, we oppose and defy all criminal and terrorist activities in the society...In many instances, we have withstood adverse forces and defended the rights and interests of the public since the inception of the organisation," it said.
RNYO continued, "The current socio-political scenario largely in the Zeliangrong society depicts downfall and destruction of the social fibre and cohesiveness of the people due to many complicated crises and conflicts arising mostly with the influences of the underground activities.
The recent incident at Longmai Part-5 near Assam Rifles Camp where two cadres of terrorists were gunned down on the evening of 25th May, 2021 signals the incessant presence of terrorists in the society even after the declaration of CSOs denouncing the particular underground faction which goes about terrorising the public, claiming lives even of their own cadres.
"On the other hand, the counterpart faction ZUF-Jenchui Group goes about hunting down the rebel terrorist faction resulting in loss of lives.
Both are seen to be causing insecurity and threats to normal public life...However, we neither subscribe nor oppose the concept and initiatives of Zeliangrong United Front who want to keep the torch alive and uphold the historical rights of the Zeliangrong people determining the common political rights of the people.
We also understand and appreciate the initiatives of certain Rongmei youth who perceive and value the essence of defending our common land and people living in the present states of Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.
Nevertheless, we shall not consent or subscribe to any faction whose interests are self-vested and greed based" .
The Rongmei youth body said, "Crimes committed by terrorist groups are a violation of human rights and democratic social norm denying people their fundamental rights to freedom and liberty in their land.
There is a compelling duty for states and every citizen to protect the general interest of public security and the rule of law with regard to human rights and fundamental rights of citizens as enshrined in the constitution of India.
We shall not tolerate any criminal organisation to run freely in our society.
Every civic citizen and responsible leaders are called to rise up together in the move for removing anti-social and terrorist activity in the society" .
"Sensing the grim picture of a chaotic society and public unrest due to the incessant activities of the underground terrorist activities, the Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation felt a necessity to initiate a public mass movement for social cleansing and creating a better social order, progress and peaceful society.
We appeal to all concerned civil organisations and public to cooperate and support the move for social cleansing and reformation," it concluded.
