Ukhrul, October 25 2024: Thousands of people drawn from across Ukhrul and Kamjong districts paid their respect to the two departed Tangkhul youth leaders during a joint condolence held at town hall in Ukhrul district headquarters here on Friday.

Tangkhul Mayar Nga-la Long (TMNL) president Themmaso Tallanao and assistant general secretary Masothing Mungshon died in a road accident near Shingcha village on October 24 while their way to Kamjong town for a public meeting hosted by Raizan Katamnao Long to assess the emerging situation after scrapping the Free Movement Regime (FMR) by the Indian government and subsequent move to fence the Indo-Myanmar border.

The attendees and the leaders of Tangkhul CSOs, NSF, UNC, NPMHR and others remembered the duo as dynamic youth leaders who laid down their precious lives for the cause of the Nagas.

The public offered prayers for strength of the grieving families and for peaceful repose of the departed souls during the joint condolence service administered by UBC pastor Rev.Remember Rimai.

Later, the mortal remains of the two youth leaders were taken to their native villages for final rites, with Themmaso Tallanao laid to rest at Longpi Kajui and Masothing Mungshon at Seikhor on Saturday.

SENAPATI: All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) on Friday stated that the journey of the Nagas towards "our glorious future for self-determination within God's given soil is always challenging due to various trammel political policies primarily moved by the adversaries" .

In a statement, the Naga student body said: "At the backdrop of the state's repressive policies for scrapping Free Movement Regime (FMR) and construction of border fencing amidist Naga homeland, the Naga people under the aegis of Naga Students' Federation (NSF), launched a 'Reconnaissance Mission' against the state's sinister policy programme covering Chandel and Ukhrul districts from October 21 to safeguard ourselves and the inherent rights over homeland as one family-free people".

"However, we are rippled with sorrow by the trag ic loss of our two beloved brothers who have made their supreme sacrifice for the cause of the people while on the journey on October 24," ANSAM said, mentioning the demise of two Naga youth leaders in an accident in Kamjong area on Thursday.

"With heavy heart, ANSAM extends deepest condolences to families of TMNL president Themmaso Tallano of Longpi Kajui village and assistant general Masothing Mangshon of Seikhor village," it added.

ANSAM continued that the tragic accident near the imposed artificial Indo-Myanmar border has left a deep void in our hearts and in the Naga community at large.

"These leaders were on a Naga national movement mission of great significance for safeguarding Naga homeland, breaking barriers and shadow lines in Nagalim to Chandel and Ukhrul districts of Manipur, raise concerns against the scrapping of FMR and imposed order meant to further divide the Nagas at the arbitrary boundary between India and by the Government of India".

"Their dedication for the Nagas, vision for better tomorrow, commitment for people's movement and supreme sacrifices to the cause of our people will be written in the history of Nagas and forever be remembered by the generations," ANSAM said.

ANSAM also prayed for the speedy recovery of Mingyao Raising of Theiva village.

CHANDEL: Chandel Naga People s Organisation (CNPO) deeply condoled the untimely demise of TMNL president Themmaso Tallanao and assistant general secretary Masothing Mangshon in a fatal accident on Thursday, near the Indo-Myanmar Border in Kamjong district.

In a condolence message, CNPO stated that the two brave leaders were on an official duty with the NSF team to assess the position and implications of the abrogation of Free Movement Regime (FMR) in the border areas.

"The sacrifices of these two brave leaders is highly honoured and let it serve as a beacon of unity, strength and courage in this Naga movement of 'Nagas without Borders'," it said.

CNPO also prayed for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace and comfort and strengthen the bereaved families.
