New mime play 'Chaos' staged

Imphal, September 23 2026: Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory staged its new mime play "Chaos" yesterday at KMTR Complex, Langthabal Kunja.

The play was produced under CMAT (2025-26) of the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur.

MSKA Junior Awardee Takhellambam Raghumani directed the play.

Joint Director, Art and Culture, Mrinashree Mairembam and former Director, JN Manipur Dance Academy, Laipubam Upendra Sharma attended as chief guest and president.

Director of Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory Yumnam Sadananda said mime has undergone major changes.

The earlier form of face painting is no longer practiced and today's play is produced to suit public taste with changing times.

The production under CMAT aims to produce many directors and artists.

Talented artists are featured and the director's creativity will be seen, he said.

Mrinashree Mairembam urged groups producing under CMAT not to produce just for namesake.

Though the department has limited funds, it is trying its best to promote Manipuri theatre and various art forms, she added.
