Bishnupur, May 21 2024:
Leimaram Heinoubok Waroiching Women's Joint Committee has rubbished the claim of Assam Rifles saving 75 Meira Paibi activists from Kuki militants after a gun battle for around 2 hours as reported in The Hindustan Times.
Addressing a press meet at Leimaram Government High School relief camp on Tuesday, Committee president N Sumila accused the Assam Rifles of making false claims as soon as they were deployed in the area in place of Gorkha Regiment recently.
This comes amid the public demand for removing Assam Rifles from the state with the false claim exposing their true nature, she said.
Regarding the incident of May 16, Sumila recounted hearing three or four gunshots in the afternoon, followed by five or six rounds of search lights around 10.30 pm.
Other than that, there was no incident of gunfight on that day in the area.
The false claim of Assam Rifles saving 75 Meira Paibis after a gunfight of 2 hours was a blatant lie made by the security force, she said.
N Sumila demanded the commanding officer of the Assam Rifles unit deployed in the area to clarify and cautioned that they will not allow Assam Rifles to stay in case of failure to honour the locals' demand.
She further drew attention of the chief minister over the blatant lie of Assam Rifles and raised the demand for replacing AR with state forces.
