National Fire Service Week concludes

The observance of National Fire Service Week on the theme 'United to Ignite: A Fire Safe India" culminated at the complex of Manipur Fire Service here on Sunday.
The valedictory function was attended by Manipur Fire Service director L Nabachandra, Imphal West DC Mayanglambam Rajkumar and Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta among others.
In his speech, SP Shivakanta noted that Manipur Fire Service has not only become stronger but also undergone huge changes.
He continued that the firemen continue to take huge risks in saving the people and preventing collateral damage to properties, while also dealing with wildfires happening every so often.

He then wished for further development of Manipur Fire Service.
DC Rajkumar appreciated the observance of the week in the way of spreading public awareness.
He recounted an incident during his term as the Jiribam DC where an irate mob vandalised a fire tender which had arrived to put out a fire in a local market.
He said that such incidents continue to happen in Manipur from time to time.
People need to understand that such incidents should never happen again.
Unlike others, Fire Service department is not divided by jurisdictions, and the first team to act is the closest fire station.
Thus, he urged all to respect the firemen and the Department.
Later, prizes were distributed to the winners of a state-level essay writing competition held for Class X & XII students, as part of the weeklong observance on April 16 .
The top three position winners honoured on the occasion were Akham Morish Singh (Class XII) of Comprehensive Concept School, Nelson Soraisham (Class X) of Sainik School, Imphal and Angelina Ningthoujam (Class X) of Tiny Tots' Unique School.
Ten participants were also awarded with consolation prizes.
