Ukhrul, July 16 2021:
The district magistrate of Ukhrul has ordered strictures for the ensuing 10-day total curfew to be enforced across the district with effect from July 18 .
The measure is being taken up in line with the State Executive Committee's call for state-wide enforcement of the curfew to stem spread of the more virulent Delta variant of Covid-19.In an order issued Friday evening, DM Joseph Pauline Kamson stated that he ordered prohibition of public movement outside their residences starting from July 18-27, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under Sub-Section 2 of Section 144, Cr PC, 1973 .
The curfew strictures will cover the entire areas situated within the revenue district of Ukhrul, he said.
Daily detection of Covid-19 cases continues to be very high relative to the population and is a cause of concern and warrants stricter measures to bring down the level of the infection in the interest of public health, he said.
"Adoption of immediate preventive and precautionary measures to strictly enforce the provisions of the 'Manipur Epidemic Diseases (Enforcement of COVID-19 Guidelines) Regulation 2020 is still required in Ukhrul district to break the chain of transmission of this widely prevalent Delta variant," he cautioned.
The order then informed that only essential activities/services related to vaccination, Covid testing, medical services (hospitals, Clinic/phar-macies), water supply, power supply, police, telecom/internet services, air travel, agriculture/ horticulture, garbage clearance, petrol pumps, LPG distributors, goods truck, and activities relating to print and electronic media are allowed during the curfew.
"This supersedes the previous order dated 09/07/2021," it said.
It also asked all Sub-Divisional Magistrates who are assigned as Incident Commanders, and district police officers, to ensure that the above order is strictly enforced in letter and spirit.
