Imphal, June 12 2024:
The recent series of attacks carried out by armed Kuki militants on Meetei villagers in Jiribam and the ambush laid on the chief minister's advance security convoy have been condemned from various quarters.
In a statement, Village Volunteer Force, Moidangpok secretary Kh Ibungobi denounced the brutal killing of a farmer in Jiribam by Kuki militants on June 6 followed by continuous onslaught by armed Kukis on the indigenous Meetei community in Jiribam district.
Instead of protecting the lives and properties of the affected citizens as mandated, central forces seem to be enthusiastic in the displacement of the Meeteis from the ancestral homes in Jiribam under the pretext of relocation, the secretary opined, adding that the acts of the central forces are similar to aiding the Kuki militias in torching the abandoned Meetei houses.
With regard to the June 10 attack by Kuki militants on the chief minister's advance security convoy near Kotlien village along NH-37, the statement contended that the assault was against the people of Manipur and the Constitution of India and underscored Kuki militants' disregard of law of the land.
The most embarrassing aspect is the central forces deployed in the area unaware of the bunkers constructed right under their nose by the armed Kuki militants, maintained the secretary.
While appealing to all indigenous communities to strive for peace, the statement also emphasised the need for state authorities to take action, including measures to deport illegal immigrants to their place of birth and to protect the lives and properties of the people.
Huirem Leikai Sports & Youth Development Organisation also expressed that the attack on the CM's security convoy should not be taken lightly as the aggression tantamount to challenging the people of Manipur.
The burning and destroying of many Meeteis houses is an act of terrorism and action should be initiated against the Kuki narco-terrorists involved, demanded the organisation.
Meanwhile, Pureiromba Youth Club (Bamon Kampu), Kalika Lairembi Youth Club (Irilbung Kalika), Eastern Youth Welfare Organisation (Bamonkampu Awang Leikai), Irilbung Machahal Women's Development Association, and Women Development Association (Bamon Kampu Awang Leikai) condemned the attacks by armed Kuki militants on Meetei people in Jiribam.
They also urged the authorities concerned to take necessary actions against those involved.
