Imphal, November 08 2024:
Leaked chat of a WhatsApp group of BJP MLAs points to frustration within the ruling party legislators over the prevailing unrest situation in the state.
As per the texted messages in the leaked chat among the ruling MLAs, some expressed outrage over the deadlock situation and called for decisive suggestions from the party leaderships.
Among others, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata's messages read; "Ready to participate in anything for the welfare of the motherland, but (I) want to know what should (we)do, whom to consult? Should we approach the Prime Minister in Delhi or the home minister? Or if (they) do not hear (us) what steps should (we) take, please be clear.
Or should we join the fight on the ground, tell us, (we) are ready to do anything for the state.
Whether we love Manipur or not should be known by our actions.
It cannot be faked.
Love for the state should be an inner feeling which cannot be simply proved by mere expression by words.
Please tell us what should be done to save the state, I am also ready" .
In a similar tone, Wangjing-Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen texted, "Love for one's own motherland and community is in every man's heart.
It is painful to see some individuals claiming to have more sense of nationalism than others.
People coming to my locality to live shows the good condition in my locality.
(We) are seeing people of different communities living in Delhi with mutual respect, but, are Meetei truck drivers in service? How are those daily wagers, Meetei traders living now...? (People are) buying cooking gas at high price, many industries and factories have closed, organisation leaders are staying outside the state, except for some TV Stars, several intellectual persons, retired officers, professors and lecturers have stopped commenting.
In the prevailing situation, would not it be right to take up initiatives to bring solutions prioritising free movement of people? If we cannot bring the solution, tell us which leader should we meet, or should we sit at Jantar Mantar if we are not heard, we are ready" .
Meanwhile, source said that speaker Satyabrata, RD&PR minister Yumnam Khemchand, MLAs K Robindro (Mayang Imphal), Tongbram Robindro (Thanga), Khwairakpam Raghumani (Uripok), Th Radheshyam (Heirok), Dr Yumnam Radheshyam (Hiyanglam), Md Abdul Nasir (Lilong), Md Ashab Uddin (Jiribam), Md Noorul Hassan (Kshetrigao), and Paonam Brojen are currently in Delhi.
The source also said that some of the MLAs are in the national capital in relation with summon issued by Enforcement Directorate.
Mention may be made that there were reports of 19 BJP MLAs submitting a memorandum to the Prime Minister on October 16, to resolve the crisis in the state while also urging to consider change of leadership if required.
On October 15, Ministry of Home Affairs convened a meeting of BJP legislators of the state from all communities in a step towards finding a solution to the crisis.
However, there is no follow-up measures or developments since then.
Though instances of arm skirmishes have declined notably, the state is still reeling under the Kuki-Meetei conflict that broke out on May 3 last year.
Despite the semblance of peace, more than 60,000 displaced people are still languishing in relief camps or temporary shelter homes.
Displaced Meeteis from Churachandpur, Moreh and Kangpokpi are still unable to return to their homes, and displaced Kukis from the valley also in woeful condition.
