Heirok MLA calls for sanely ST demand

In continuation of the demand being made by Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM) for forwarding the requisite recommendation, to include Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Constitution of India, members of CSOs under the aegis of Coordinating Body of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee submitted a memorandum to Heirok MLA Thokchom Radheshyam at his Heirok residence on Monday afternoon.
In this regard, MLA Rad heshyam urged for making the ST demand a success, without harming the interests of other communities.
The indigenous communities of the state must not be self-vested but be respectful of others.
Thus, he assured of ascertaining the best way to fulfil the demand while also addressing all concerns in a peaceful and respectful manner, he added.
The Committee also at tempted to submit a similar memorandum to Thanga MLA Robindro at his Khagempali residence on Monday.
However, the MLA was not at home.
Meanwhile, Co-ordinating Body, Khurai has extended its support to STDCM, which is pursuing the demand for inclusion of Meetei in the ST list and appealed to the government to consider the demand.
In a release, Co-ordinating Body chairman S Inaobi Meitei stated that it will wholeheartedly participate in the agitations launched by STDCM for materialisation of the demand.
