SYSU celebrates Diamond Jubilee, Sports Meet

The Siimai (Saranamai) Youth & Students' Union (SYSU) celebrated the Diamond Jubilee cum Sports Meet from December 27 to 31, 2024, at Dobviilai and local ground.
The inaugural session took place on December 27 at the Saranamai Local Ground, with RP Danii, former ADC member, as the chief guest and Th Pou, chairman Siimai Union, as the guest of honour.
The ceremony was further honoured by the presence of Salew Pfokreni, chief of Makhel village, who was thanked by the Saranamai villagers for his blessings upon Siimai (Saranamai), recognised as the oldest village of the Poumai Naga Tribe.

On December 28, the Union officially celebrated its Diamond Jubilee under the theme "Serving for a Change", with L Dikho, MLA Mao AC, as the chief guest, Saveio.Khole, vice-president BJYM Manipur State and a member of the Airport Advisory Committee, as theguest of honour, and S Alexander Maikho, former ADC member, as the functional guest.
During his address, the chief guest pledged to construct a new football ground in the village within a short timeframe and reiterated his commitment to support the villagers in various capacities.
The valedictory session, held on December 31, featured N Kaikho Kapa, joint director (retd) Tribal Affairs & Hills, as the chief guest, Joram Koveo, president SDO-AM, as the guest of honour, and Elia Liba, a social worker, as the presiding officer.
The sports meet, held under the theme "Transform, Elevate, Excel", included competitions in athletics categorised into eight groups for men and four groups for women, on the basis of age.
The categories were named in the local dialect, reflecting the cultural heritage of Siimai.
Men's categories included Vahichu, Siishapfii, Yu-cheche, Saoterei, Kazii Bunii Pfii, Khyouchi, Vahphao, and Hriitao, while women's categories were Nedziikhao, Nyadziikhao, Tedziikhao, and Veidziikhao.
The names hold significant importance for the people of Siimai.
The men's category names were derived from village boundaries and important places, while the women's categories were inspired by natural ponds vital to the villagers' daily water supply.
The SYSU executives and the Central Organising Committee (COC) extended their heartfelt gratitude to all distinguished guests for their presence.
They also thanked SYSU members, the Siimai Union chairman and secretary, the chairpersons and secretaries of the three villages, and the women's chairpersons and secretaries for the Siimai Youth and Students' Organisation (SYSO) for hosting the event, as well as the five Khel Youth presidents and secretaries for their guidance.
The SYSU executives and COC also acknowledged the generosity of all patrons and donors who contributed to the celebration, and they commended the village authority councils of Siimai Ngudu, Siimai Khaikho, and Siimai Rakhutao for organising the Grand Feast held bn Jubilee Day, December 28, 2024 .
