Imphal, March 03 2025:
Former president of United Committee Manipur (UCM) Elangbam Johnson suggested that the Centre initiate action against leaders of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) and Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) for misleading the Kuki public.
Johnson inaugurated a newly constructed open gym at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai on Monday and dedicated the same to the public.
Addressing those gathering at the event, he opined that efforts to find solution to the ongoing violence in Manipur since May 3, 2023 will remain elusive if Kuki CSOs particularly ITLF and CoTU continue to mislead the public.

As such the Centre should take stringent action against ITLF and CoTU, and nullify falsehood being spread by leaders of the two organisations in order to expedite the process for ending the conflict, he stressed, while further remarking that there would be no solution to the crisis if the Prime Minister does not talk to the people of Manipur and understand sentiments of indigenous people of the state.
Johnson also emphasised that Union home minister Amit Shah put efforts to preserve history of Manipur and territorial integrity of the state.
According to Johnson, it is important to remember people's uprising of 2001 and other intense public movement occurred from time to time in Manipur while resolving the present crisis.
Withdrawal of the President's Rule and restoration of a popular government are also essential for resolving the crisis, he maintained, while cautioning that Manipur might face unprecedented situation if any exercise aimed at resolving the crisis undermines the history of Manipur.
There should be no comparison and link between the political history of Lushai hills and Naga hills under British India with the history of Manipur, which was not under British India, he asserted.
