Imphal, March 03 2023:
Loktak Battalion of 27 Sector Assam Rifles/Headquarters under Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), in a joint operation with Manipur Police commando unit, apprehended a drug peddler along with heroin worth approximately Rs 1 crore near Torbung community hall in Churachandpur district on Thursday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), based on specific input received from the Battalion's intelligence team, the troops of Assam Rifles launched a joint operation with police commandos which led to the successful apprehension of the drug peddler.
On subsequent interrogation and frisking, a total quantity of 1.195 kg of Heroin was recovered from the individual's possession.
The apprehended drug peddler has been handed over to Phoujakchao Ikhai police station for further investigation after following due course of formalities.
Meanwhile, Thoubal district police commando unit assisted by women personnel on Friday arrested a woman along with 551 grams of brown sugar from Wahengbam Leikai, Jiribam Parking area.
The arrestee has been identified as Heshi (33) wife of Dinglen Doungel of Tamenglong West (Tousem) in Tamenglong district.
According to police, on receipt of a specific input from 16 AR about transportation of some contraband items from Imphal towards Jiribam, team of Thoubal commando unit led by additional SP (ops) O Wangkhomba conducted frisking and checking in the Parking area during which a lady was seen quickly rushing to a nearby one passenger TATA Winger in a suspicious nature.
On preliminary verification she revealed herself as Heshi but did not cooperated when the police team tried to check her belongings stating that the school bag contains only eatables and clothes.
However, upon checking the school bag she was in possession, 551 grams of suspected Brown Sugar was found contained in 40 soap cases.
The arrestee along with the seized items has been handed over to Imphal PS for further investigation, the police source informed.
On the other-hand, a part of the War on Drugs 2.0, a combined security team led by Kangpokpi district police destroyed poppy plantations spread over 15 acres of area in two villages under Saikul PS on Friday.
The combined security team comprising personnel of Saikul PS, reserved line, 6 1RB, 5 IRB, trainees of MPTC and forest department destroyed poppy plantations at Natzang and Molkon hill ranges in Saikul area.
The combined team was led by additional SP (L & O) Rocky Thalu under the supervision of SP Th Vikramjit and Saikul PS OC inspector B Lunthang Vaiphei.
