Imphal, November 02 2024:
Socio-political commentator Chongtham Bijoy has stated that he experienced immense mental anguish following his unceremonious expulsion from the BJP.
He maintained that the party provided no valid reason for his removal, and announced that he will seek compensation for both his expulsion from the party and the emotional distress he endured consequently.
Addressing media persons at his residence at Lamphel Khunou Saturday, Chongtham Bijoy said the BJP expelled him without any reason but with a mala fide intention.
"The sudden and unjust expulsion caused me severe mental trauma and accordingly demanded huge compensation," he said, adding that he has a dream of donating the entire compensation amount, big or small, to intellectuals /CSOs who could find a way to bring back peace and normalcy in Manipur.
According to Chongtham Bijoy, he was in the BJP for several years and worked sincerely for the party as spokesperson but the party expelled him for six years as per an order of the BJP Manipur Pradesh issued on February 8, 2022."Being chairman of the party's disciplinary committee sometimes before the expulsion, I knew rules and regulations for expulsion and accordingly challenged the order in law court.
Final hearing of the case, filed at civil court on February 16, 2022, was held recently and the same court on October 30.2024 annulled the order," Bijoy said adding that N Avi and N Bhupenda were his counsels in the case.
While claiming that his supporters and well-wishers increased significantly after he was expelled from the BJP and became active in media, Chongtham Bijoy said, seeking opinions from his supporters on whether to rejoin the BJP.
