Ukhrul celebrates Christmas with 'Peace on Earth' message

Ukhrul, December 26 2022: Ukhrul denizens exchanged gifts and spread the message of "Peace on Earth" celebrating Christmas with pomp and gaiety.

Houses, streets and Churches all came to live with colourful lights and decorations to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Jesus Christ.

Church leaders and Pastors in their Christmas celebration sermon issued clarion calls to all congregation members and people to propagate the message of peace and harmony through the celebration.

Chairman of Phungyo Baptist Church Christmas Committee (PBCCC) Amo Maung wished, "Let the love and peace of Jesus Christ reign over each and every heart as we celebrate the festival this year on the theme Peace on Earth" .

Maung extended warm Christmas greetings to all for a merry and peaceful celebration.

This year, the Church is celebrating the festival based on the theme 'Peace on Earth' to mark the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ who came to "redeem us from sins", he said.

He said, on December 25, PBC hosted a grand feast for all the non-Christian communities in Ukhrul town to share the joy of the festival and to strengthen cordial relationships.

More than 400 individuals attended the feast.

A special programme for children programme at Mission ground, Alungtang will mark the festival on December 26 .

Moreover, PBC, Tangrei Ukhrul has arranged Christmas Hiking at Shirui Mountain peak.

Rev Zaklei Kaping, Pastor PBC will deliver "Sermon on the mount" on December 29 at the mountain peak.

This will be followed by "Pot Luck" and Christmas Gift Exchange programme at the Shirui peak.

All interested persons are invited irrespective of their denomination for celebrating the programme together in true spirit of oneness.

A series of festivities/programmes such as choral, choreography, fancy dress and sports events like tug of war are lined up for the week long celebration at Ukhrul town.

With Christmas bringing families and friends together in Ukhrul, the length and breadth of the town is all decked up with illuminated lights and decorations, and Christmas trees and stars.

The Christmas vibe is also evident in the way Ukhrul town folks are out strolling with melodies and songs on their lips.
