As in other parts of the globe, the World Veterinary Day was also observed in the State today.
The main observance function was held under the aegis of Manipur State Veterinary Council at the new office complex of the Council at Sanjenthong here with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as chief guest, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Minister DD Thaisii as president and MLA Salam Joy as guest of honour.
A public discussion session held to mark the occasion also adopted various recommendations.
The recommendations include formation of a separate Licensing Authority for selling of Veterinary Drugs and its regulation, early reconstitution of State Animal Welfare Board by electing suitable members and opening of Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animal in all districts as per guidelines of the Animal Welfare Board, enforcement of Meat and Meat production odour and Milk and Milk Production odour in all Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats of Manipur and establishment of a well facilitated Duck Breeding Farm in Manipur.
Earlier, addressing the observance function after inaugurating the new complex of the Council, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry has been contributing its mite in promotion and production of livestock required by the State consumers.
However, close monitoring and protection of livestock is essential as they can help in augmenting economy of the State.
In this regard, the Chief Minister appealed to the department employees particularly doctors and field assistants to carry out their duties sincerely and with dedication along with taking keen interest in research works.
While assuring that the required infrastructure in all the veterinary hospitals located in various districts of the State would be looked into, he also gave necessary instructions to officials concerned in this connection.
Appreciating efforts of the Department in fighting against outbreak of Bird Flu in the State recently and its subsequent containment, the Chief Minister hoped that the Manipur State Veterinary Council would co-ordinate with Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry in continuing to work for welfare of the people.
Maintaining that the Government has been making extra efforts towards promotion of health and education as well as improvement of the law and order situation among other developmental works, the Chief Minister also appealed to for support and co-operation.
In his presidential address, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Minister DD Thaisii assured the gathering that the Government would try its level best to improve the functioning of the Department by taking care of the manpower and infrastructural requirements.
The employees of the Department should also extend their co-operation to the effort of the Government, he said, while appealing to the officials of the Department to stay alert from possible outbreak of diseases among the livestock from time to time.
It may be noted here that the construction work on the complex of the Manipur State Veterinary Council which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister began in 2007.The complex spreads over an area of 300 ft X 120 ft with a double-storeyed RCC building attached with a 100-seated conference room, office rooms and guest house.
