Imphal, July 22 2021: AICC in charge of Manipur Bhakta Charan Das has lambasted the saffron party on its handling of COVID-19 in Manipur and for allegedly snooping on politicians, journalists, activists and other influential personalities using a Pegasus spyware.

Briefing media persons at Congress Bhavan, today, the Congress leader asked why the State Government is not conducting an oxygen audit despite the 'rise in Covid deaths due to lack of medical oxygen'.

Ridiculing the claim of the Centre that there are no Covid deaths due to lack of oxygen in the country, BC Das contended that there are no functioning ventilators in district and private hospitals in Manipur.

He also claimed that ventilators are not provided to the Covid patients at RIMS and JNIMS.

As many as 2,454 positive cases were reported on July 21 and 22 last, he pointed out and asserted that the Covid data of the last few days in Manipur, which hardly has 30 lakh population, is terrifying.

Saying that the State Government has failed to bring down the Covid positivity rate despite months of restrictions, the Congress leader added that the BJP Government is responsible for the Covid deaths in Manipur.

He also asked why the State Government is not helping the family members of those who died due to COVID-19 and not providing RT-PCR test kits in mass Covid testing in localities.

"Considering the way the State Government is managing the pandemic, it is impossible to achieve 100 percent recovery from the dreaded disease," he added.

On alleged Pegasus snooping, BC Das asked how the Prime Minister can turn a blind eye when the whole of Nation has been snooped.

Pegasus snooping is an unconstitutional attack on freedom of speech and press and an illegal intrusion 'to our fundamental right' enshrined under Article 21 of the Constitution, he contended.

He then demanded a judicial probe led by the Supreme Court against Pegasus snooping in the country.

The Congress leader landed in Imphal on Wednesday following the resignation of K Govindas as president of MPCC.
