Jiribam, March 20 2010:
Governor of Manipur Gurbachan Jagat today took a helicopter flight to Jiribam sub-division in Imphal East district and inaugurated a newly constructed building of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, and also met with public leaders of the sub-division and discussed the various problems being faced by the residents of Jiribam.
As the Governor landed on the ground of Jiribam Higher Secondary School, he was received by ADC Jiribam Y.Iboyaima.
The Governor then went to the newly constructed building of the RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya and inaugurated it.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Gurbachan Jagat expressed his confidence that the RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya will be able to give a boost to quality education in Jiribam sub-division.
The newly opened Vidyalaya under CBSE will also be able to provide good education to people not only of Jiribam but also of the neighbouring districts even including Cachar district of Assam, he said.
The Governor further said that the identity of a society can be measured by its education.
Chairman of the managing committee of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, Th Haridas, who also spoke at the inaugural function, pointed out that though Jiribam is a sub-division of Imphal East district, it is a border town located very far away from its district.
There are only one Higher Secondary School and one college in Jiribam sub-division.
The college has only Arts stream.
In such a place where education remains backward, establishing a school like the Vidyalaya under the central board will be able to fill the gap, atleast to certain extent, Haridas said and added that the Vidyalaya has been established in Jiribam following suggestions from many people in Jiribam and neighbouring districts.
Retired Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court and former chairperson of Assam Human Rights Commission, Justice RK Manisana also sat on the dais.
After the function, the Governor attended a meeting of district level officers held at the office of ADC Jiribam.
He also released a 91-paged book titled "JiribamEastern Gateway of Manipur" written by ADC Jiribam, Y Iboyaima.
The Governor also held a meeting with leaders and representatives of various civil society organisations and listened to their grievances.
