One killed, 3 hurt in bomb blasts

Imphal, December 19 2012: At least one person was killed while another three sustained injuries in three different bomb blast incidents which took place at different parts of Imphal today.

Unidentified miscreants carried out a bomb attack on a convoy of 143-CRPF personnel while they were on their way to their camp at Lamphel after fetching water from Porompat water reservoir this morning at around 10:30.The blast took place near Star Sporting Union along Imphal East DC road.

A driver of a private water tanker identified as Sheikh Mustaq Ahmad, s/o late Abdul Malik of Hatta Golapati Mayai Leikai sustained injuries in the blast.

He sustained bomb splinter injuries on his right thigh and is undergoing treatment at JNIMS.

Sheikh Mustaq Ahmad informed Hueiyen Lanpao that he was coming out of the Porompat Water reservoir after filling his water tanker just ahead of the convoy of 143-CRPF personnel when the bomb went off near Star Sporting Union.

Apart from bomb splinter injuries on his right thigh, the wind shield and side body of his vehicle suffered partial damage in the blast.

Sheikh Mustaq Ahmad further informed that after the first blast, he came down from his vehicle and was walking a few steps towards the rear end of the vehicle, when all of a sudden another bomb exploded a few feet away from the previous spot but on the opposite side of the road and he fainted.

Soon after serial bomb blasts, personnel of Imphal East district police led by SP Angam rushed in to the spot and carried out an extensive search of other probable bombs which could have been planted by the miscreants.

The Police team was also later on joined by personnel of AR and 143-CRPF.On the other hand, unidentified miscreants hurled a bomb which exploded at the residence of Laishram Kheda, Special Contractor, of Singjamei Liwa Lambi Laishram Leikai at around 5:20 pm today.

The bomb which landed in the backyard of Laishram Kheda led to the death of a worker and injuries to two others.

The deceased has been identified as Maibam Bira (59), s/o late Goverdhan of Kha-Maibam Leikai while the injured workers as Oinam Sanayaima (50), s/o late Apombi of Liwa Lambi Oinam Leikai and Louiremba Manja (35), s/o L Amu of Kakwa Maibam Leikai.

Both of them have been admitted to Raj Poly Clinic at North AOC for treatment.
