Stay away from CAB supporters: UCM

Imphal, April 17 2019: The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has categorically stated that people of the State ought to stay away from CAB supporters and at the same time identify the party which promised to pass the Law on Asylum.

Speaking at the 39th Realization Day observed today at Singjamei Chinga Mathak Pishum Ground (Hao Ground) under the aegis of AMSU, UCM president Sunil Karam said that people should not forget the massive protest which raged throughout the North East region including Manipur against CAB 2016 in the midst of the election cauldron.

People ought to stay away from the political party which supports CAB 2016 .

At the same time, people need to ponder over on what sections of people should be given asylum.

People need to know those people who promised to pass the Law on Asylum, Sunil said.

Stay away from CAB supporters: UCM

For years, mainland India has been conspiring to suppress the indigenous peoples of the North East by way of extensive militarisation, political dilution and population dilution, said the UCM president.

Complete domination of regional parties and muffling their voices by National parties is a clear case of political dilution and population dilution refers to plantation of non-local population in huge numbers among indigenous peoples, he elucidated.

Tripura was the first State in the North East region which suffered disastrous impacts of population dilution.

Now the population of non-local has far exceeded the indigenous people of Tripura, and as a result, identity, culture and political rights of indigenous Tripuri people have been totally destroyed, he said.

After Tripura, Assam and Manipur have started witnessing adverse impacts of population dilution.

BJP leaders have been making incoherent and often contradictory statements about CAB 2016 and as such, people should not trust them.

BJP National general secretary Ram Madhav said that CAB 2016 may see the light of day by July this year.

Amidst these disturbing developments, State BJP leaders have been claiming that CAB would not harm Manipur and a clause would be inserted in the Bill which would keep Manipur out of its ambit but all their claims are hard to believe, asserted the UCM president.

People should stand united against CAB and must not fall prey to the deceitful electoral practices.

Only then, the State can be protected, he said.

At the same time, people should keep in mind that Congress party has promised to pass the Law on Asylum.

As such, there is a growing need for the masses to study the law and identify what sections of people would be given asylum in the country under the law.

Speaking at the gathering, Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) president Amu Kamei said that enforcement of CAB 2016 implies complete extermination of all the indigenous peoples of the North East including Manipur.

Once the Bill is transformed into an Act, immigrants would completely dominate both the hills and valley of Manipur within a very short period, Amu Kamei said.

He also expressed keen desire for AMSU to work together with civil organisations and representatives of all the communities of Manipur.

World Human Rights Protection Association State president Md Wahajuddin Yumkhaibam remarked that the Central Government's initiative to grant citizenship to immigrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan by enacting CAB is a wrong step and it would prove disastrous for the whole North East region.

Illegal immigrants may follow any religion but granting them Indian citizenship is not acceptable at all, Wahajuddin said.

Giving shelter to refugees is basically about housing them in residential camps for a specific period of time.

But allowing the refugees to settle permanently inside the country amidst local population by the passing the Law on Asylum is equally unacceptable, he asserted.

NESO Secretary and AMSU advisor Sinam Prakash said that there is nothing more to be discussed about CAB 2016.Illegal migrants should be treated as one and they do not deserve to be granted Indian citizenship, he said.

It is really disheartening that some people have forgotten the massive and sustained protest movement which raged throughout the North East region against CAB 2016 a few months back in the cauldron of the Lok Sabha election, he lamented.

People of mainland India never see the indigenous people of North East as equals, Prakash said.

He went on to ask why AFSPA is imposed in the North East for decades and not in any part of mainland India where Maoists are highly active and security forces are killed in large number at regular intervals.

AMSU will stand firm and fight against all issues which impinge upon the State's interests including CAB 2016, he asserted.

AMSU president Peter Laishram and Kuki Inpi Manipur, Imphal Zone president Mangcha Haokip too attended the function.

Earlier, the gathering paid floral tributes to Potshangbam Premananda and Huidrom Lokendro at their Pishum Chingamacha memorial who were killed in the anti-foreigners movement of 1980 .
