EGM, AMWJU decry threat to reporter of IT

Imphal, May 10 2024:
Saying that a group of about 10 armed miscreants intimidated a reporter of Imphal Times for publishing a particular news story last night, the Editors' Guild Manipur and the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) have urged the State Government to take up legal actions against the culprits involved within five days.
EGM and AMWJU, in a joint statement, cautioned that they will launch a stem agitation if there is no positive response from the Government within the five days.
As per the statement, a group of heavily armed miscreants went to the residence of Imphal Times reporter Khumanthem Dhanachandra at Naoremthong Laishram Leikai last night at around 8.45 and intimidated him (the reporter) .
Dhanachandra is a member of AMWJU RTI cell.
It further said that the armed miscreants who came in three vehicles asked Dhanachandra to meet them at a particular location in Imphal West at 10 am today.
Strongly condemning the intimidation of the media person, EGM and AMWJU stated that the miscreants trying to silence the media was unfortunate.
EGM and AMWJU take last night's incident very seriously, it said and added that they have taken some resolutions on the matter after convening a joint meeting of EGM and AMWJU at Manipur Press Club today.
Appealing to all relevant authorities to take up legal actions against those who threatened the reporter at his own home, EGM and AMWJU added that they will launch a strong agitation if their demand is not entertained within five days.
Further appealing to all concerned not to intimidate media persons furthermore and respect the code of conduct and local adjustments of AMWJU, the joint statement said that any individual or group who are displeased with a certain news story can always contact the media firm or the Editor concerned or AMWJU and EGM to settle matters.
