Ukhrul, July 08 2024: A portion of National Highway-202 has sunk between Langdang village and Choithar Junction along the Ukhrul-Shirui village road of Ukhrul district due to incessant rain over the last few days.

Following the road sink, many vehicles including trucks and other smaller vehicles were left stranded on either side.

Speaking in this connection, OC of Ukhrul Police Station, Chuingam informed that more than 200 vehicles have been stranded on both sides of the sunken road stretch measuring 20/30 metres.

This has caused immense hardships to the commuters, Chuingam added.

Expressing concern that vehicular movement will be hindered until the damaged portion is repaired, the OC urged the departments concerned for timely inter- vention to repair the road.

Meanwhile, the truck drivers and villagers have initiated road repair work by filling the sunken portion with stones and other materials.

It is worth mentioning that the NH-202 connects Nagaland and Imphal via Jessami village, passing through northern Tangkhul villages and is a vital connectivity route for Ukhrul district.

Notably, Langdang village is located about 10 kilometres away from the Ukhrul District Headquarters.
