Kangpokpi, May 08 2021: The fatality of COVID-19 second wave continued to ravage Kangpokpi district as it witnessed two more reported deaths today according to the official Covid situation report.

Out of the two reported deaths, one is from Motbung area, she succumbed to the dreaded COVID-19 on May 6 at CMC Hospital Koirengei but it was officially reflected in the official portal only today.

According to the death report from CMC Hospital, Koirengei the deceased woman (41) from Motbung, Kangpokpi District was brought to the hospital with shortness of breath and on examination and investigation she was found infected with COVID.

She could not be shifted to another centre due to the non availability of bed and was managed in the hospital.

She expired on May 6 at around 4:36 pm.

The other woman who succumbed to the dreaded COVID-19 was from Kangpokpi town.

She was hospitalized at Kangpokpi Christian Hospital and was immediately shifted to District Hospital Kangpokpi after she was found COVID-19 positive.

Her oxygen saturation was reportedly below 70 when she was shifted to the district hospital.

The 76 years old woman from Kangpokpi Ward No 2 died this morning at the hospital.

The deceased was buried at Kangpokpi cemetery this afternoon following strict protocol in the presence of medical officials and police personnel of Kangpokpi.

With the recent two fatality cases, the fatality rate of Kangpokpi district stands at 21, while 11 more positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours taking the total number of active cases in Kangpokpi district to 69 .

It may be mentioned that 7629 persons have been vaccinated with the first dose of Covishield in the district.

Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer Kangpokpi had submitted a brief report of Covid Care Centre to the Chief Minister yesterday through DC Kangpokpi during a Video Conference.

In his report, the CMO proposed another Covid Care Centre at EMRS Saparmeina apart from the existing Covid Care Centre at Leikop.

He stated that there are four doctors (excluding those on administrative duty) on duty and they are divided into two groups and each group consists of 2 doctors, 6 nurses and 4 Multi Tasking Staffs at the existing CCC Leikop.

He also presented a proposal to upgrade the existing CCC Leikop from the intake capacity of 70 beds to 100 beds and mentioned that there are only 2 B-type Oxygen cylinder and only 1 D-type Oxygen cylinder; 2 Pulse Oximeter; 1 Oxygen Concentrator and 1 Ventilator.

In connection with the proposed Covid Care Centre at EMRS Saparmeina, the CMO mentioned that the intake should be at least 100 beds.

The requirements submitted by the CMO Kangpokpi includes 25 B-type Oxygen cylinder, 25 D-type Oxygen cylinder, 25 Pulse Oximeter, 5 Oxygen Concentrator and 5 Ventilator while the manpower requirements includes 10 Medical Officers, 12 staff nurses, 12 Multi Tasking Staffs and 2 Data Entry Operators.

The Chief Medical Officer Kangpokpi submitted a petition to the Director of Health Services, Government of Manipur for urgent supply of logistics for COVID-19 activities in respect of Kangpokpi district.

Copies of the petition were also submitted to Kangpokpi AC MLA, PA to Principal Secretary, H&WF, Government of Manipur, SMD, NHM Manipur, DC/Chairperson, District Health Society Kangpokpi, CSOs Kangpokpi, etc.

Meanwhile, the total lockdown at Kangpokpi town entered its second day today.

Shops were closed and local transport activities were restricted.
