In all nine explosive devices, including eight in Jiribam sub-division, have been safely defused by bomb experts of security force from September 3 till today.
After a bomb found and destroyed at near Singjamei Super Market yesterday created panic among the populace another explosive device whose detonation content is said to be in liquid form was discovered from Lilong Chajing Lamkhai.
According to source, bomb disposal members of the State on being informed found a 750 ml bottle containing chemical explosive items.
After nearly an hour and half of close examination of the bottle contents which was found tugged into the roadside bushes, the bomb experts set off the explosion at around 5.15 pm today.
On the other hand, PIB (DW) claimed in a statement today that an IED detection and destruction team of army from the 53 Engineer Regiment successfully neutralised a series of eight bombs found planted in a pylon carrying high tension power line at Lalpani near Jiribam sub-division on September 3.The IEDs placed on the pylon which is about 50 metres away from the Jiribam-Silchar road was detected by a villager who relayed the discovery to the Army.
Stating that in case of blast the IEDs could have caused huge destruction to the power lines that supply electricity to Jiribam area, the statement added that the explosive devices were removed to a safe site and destroyed with utmost care.
Each IED weighed around 1.5 kgs and were packed with explosive material, nail and shrapnel capable of completely knocking down the structures whose restoration could have consumed more than a month, it maintained.
This heinous act by the UGs to bring about misery to the unsuspecting and peace loving people of Manipur and southern Assam is highly deplorable and should be condemned by all, it added.
