Imphal, February 03 2023: The President of India has appointed Manipur Judicial Service Grade I Officer Aribam Guneshwar Sharma as a Judge of the High Court of Manipur today.

His appointment will go into effect from the date he assumes charge of the office, as per a notification issued by Rajindra Kashyap, Additional Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Department of Justice (Appointment Division) .

Aribam Guneshwar Sharma was born on March 1, 1967 at Yaiskul Police Lane near Krishna Premi Oil Pump to Aribam Brajakumar Sharma.

Upon completion of his LLB from Delhi University he enrolled in the Bar Council of Delhi and worked as Standing Counsel for Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation, AOR for the Municipal Corporations of Punjab; AOR for J Sagar & Associates for NDPL, BSES Yamuna & Rajdhani, Tata Telecom, PTC Co Ltd.

He also filed and appeared in many cases in the Supreme Court as a private counsel.

Aribam Guneshwar Sharma also practiced as an advocate in New Delhi for about 15 years.

Aribam Guneshwar Sharma was appointed as Grade I Officer in Manipur Judicial Service on May 25, 2010 as direct recruit in the District & Sessions Judge, Super Time Scale Grade.

He is the senior most Judge in the District Court of Manipur and was posted as Additional District and Session Judge, Manipur East.

He served as the Presiding Officer of Revenue/Co-operative Tribunal & MACT, Manipur from August, 2010 till March 2012; Member Secretary of Manipur State Legal Services Authority; District and Session Judge, Manipur East, now Imphal East, from July 2013 till November 2015; District and Session Judge, Imphal West from May 2022 till present and also held the post of Registrar General of High Court of Manipur from July 2016 to May 2021.It may be noted that the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Aribam Guneshwar Sharma's elevation as High Court Judge on January 10 .
