Many condemn Sangakpham terror attack

Imphal, August 02 2011: Conveying deep pain and shock over the killing of five persons and injuring eight others in the Sangakpham terror attack, Governor Gurbachan Jagat stated that such senseless act of targeting innocent citizens was a sheer act of barbarism and must be strongly condemned by all.

The State Government should take up effective action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime so that the rule of law and respect for authority is ensure, the Governor stated in a press release.

The Naga Peoples' Union Imphal (NPUI) has strongly condemned the Sangakpham bomb blast which killed five people and injured eight persons yesterday afternoon.

A press release issued by the NPUI termed the bomb attack dastardly and treacherous.

The NPUI also deeply mourned and shared the sorrow and grief of the bereaved families and the injured victims.

It also prayed for speedy recuperation of the injured victims.

Questioning the motive of triggering such a powerful blast at the crowded civilian area, the NPUI asked all concerned not to repeat such heinous crimes in future.

It further conveyed gratitude to the State Government for its prompt announcement for monetary aid to the families of deceased victims as well as injured victims.

Meanwhile, the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) held a meeting at the Seventh-Day Adventist Office, Chingmeirong today and prayed for two minutes in silence for the dead and injured victims of the Sangakpham bomb blast.

It further appealed to all UG groups not to repeat such acts in future in public places.

The Wide Angle has also strongly condemned the terror attack (blast).

It was cowardly and inhuman act of sheer terrorism, said a press release issued by the Wide Angle.

Attack on innocent students and persons are serious crime against humanity.

"We deeply share the serious injuries of the bereaved families of all the deceased as well as the injured victims.

Such senseless barbaric act must not be repeated in future", it added.

Others who have come out strongly against the terror attack include Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE), Committee on Human Rights (COHR), Threatened Indigenous People's Society (TIPS), All Manipur Women Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj (AMWSRDS), Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN), National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO), United People's Front (UPF), Coalition Against drugs and Alcohol (CADA) and Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies (FREINDS) .

Many others have also condemned the terror attack in the strongest term.

They include Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO), Muslim Students' Union of Manipur (MSUM), SFI Manipur State Committee, Kabui Development Club, Chingmeirong Rongmei Youth Club, North Imphal United Clubs and Meira Paibees Organisation (NIUCAMO), Civil Liberties and Human Rights Organisation (CLAHRO), Students Welfare Association of Kangleipak (SWAK), All Manipur Nupi Marup, All India Youth Federation, Manipur State Council, AISF Manipur State Council, Manipur People's Democratic Front, CPI Manipur State Council, BJP Manipur Pradesh, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee and the Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham Amadi Saktam Kanba Lup.
