Imphal, January 23: Four persons were injured when unidentified gunmen fired several rounds at them at Loklaobung under Imphal PS today at around 12.30 am, said sources.

Sources said that the incident occurred when some armed persons bashed up and looted some youths at Loklaobung area who were returning after witnessing a musical concert held at Yumnam Leikai Lairembi Lampak in connection with the Emoinu Festival.

On hearing reports about the incident, some youths rushed to Loklaobung area to confront the armed persons.

However, the gunmen greeted them with a volley of bullets and fled the scene.

Four youths were injured in the firing.

The injured have been identified as Yumnam Samananda (30) s/o Jugeshwar of Yumnam Leikai, Yumnam Shashikumar (25) s/o Neta of Yumnam Leikai, Ningthoujam Meghamani (34) s/o Iboyaima of Sagolband Tera Amudon Akham Leikai and Ngangbam Shankar (23) s/o Gunadhor of Yumnam Leikai.

All were immediately rushed to RIMS.

Shashikumar, Meghamani and Shankar have been discharged from the hospital.

However, Y Samananda has been referred to JN Hospital as he sustained head injuries.

A sum of Rs 940 was also forcibly taken away from Ng Shankar by the armed persons.

Following the firing, the musical concert at Yumnam Leikai Lairembi Lampak also came to an abrupt halt.

Meanwhile, commandos of the Imphal East Dist Police arrested two youths in connection with the Loklaobung firing incident from Oinam Thingel Aheibam Leikai early this morning at around 5.30 and recovered two vehicles, said police.

The two arrested persons have been identified as Waikhom Chingkheinganba Mangang (21) s/o Sanatomba and Thingujam Kumarjit alias Rakesh (20) s/o Th Ingocha.

Both are reported to be from Oinam Thingel under Singjamei PS.

The vehicles seized from the duo included one CBZ (MN 1J/8156) and one Activa (MN 01M/9417).One live bullet of M-20 was also recovered from the duo.

Police have also been able to identify the other youths who were involved in the firing incident.

Meanwhile, Addl Superintendent of Police Imphal West Dist has identified the two arrested youths as cadres of the proscribed outfit PREPAK.

In another incident, commandos of Imphal West Dist apprehended two PREPAK cadres fro Samurou this morning at a round 7, said police.

The two PREPAK cadres have been identified as Longjam Somen alias Ibomcha (23) s/o L Budhi (Lt army No 812 batch-15) of Samurou Makha Leikai and Abujam Shashikumar alias Chacha (26) s/o A Keshokumar of Samurou Awang Leikai.

One demand letter belonging to the proscribed outfit PREPAK was also recovered from Longjam Somen.

According to another police report, sleuths of Imphal West District Police apprehended two women for drug trafficking from Soibam Leikai this morning at around 9.30.The two arrested women have been identified as Nemneikim Haokip (30) d/o (L) Thangpao Haokip of Canan Veng, North AOC and Nengboi Doungel (30) w/o Lamthang Doungel of Saikul Haokip Veng.

Both of them were arrested from their rented rooms at Soibam Leikai.

15 gms of Heroin was also recovered from Nemneikim Haokip.

Meanwhile, commandos of Imphal West Dist arrested one KNF (P) activist identified as Jangboi Kipgen alias Kaisat Zou (27) S/o Mangsei of Songlong Village Senapati Dist from near Phulchand and Trilokchand Oil Pump this evening at around 4.10, said police.

Two live rounds of 9 mm, one Bolero Jeep (Regd No MN-01K/4234 and one RC book belonging to one Haokhotinlen Vaiphei s/o (L) Thangkholal of S Molnom Village Senapati dist were also recovered from them.
